   Thursday Keynote and Spotlight Speaker

John has taught every subject of middle school in a low-SES, Title One district in Phoenix, Arizona.  He ran the IMPACT program and Social Voice Media, where students created documentaries, created an online magazine, painted murals and participated in weekly community service. Throughout his career, he has developed a tech-integrated framework on Linux netbooks, Chromebooks, iMacs and iPod Touches.

He earned a master’s degree in educational technology and has experience in coaching teachers in his district’s 21st Century learning initiative. He earned the Capstone Project of the Year award from NAU for his research and development of Teacher Commons, a hybrid online-offline, technology-integrated professional development program for his school. 

He blogs regularly at Education Rethink, TeachPaperless and the Cooperative Catalyst. He has written A Sustainable Start, Teaching Unmasked, Sages and Lunatics, Pencil Me In and he is currently working on a chapter in a technology textbook.  

John currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife and three kids. When he’s not throwing around a baseball or playing with Play Dough, he enjoys painting, writing, running and reading.

 

Dan Layton

 

     Friday Keynotes

     After graduating from Ball State University in 2005 Dan Layton made his way to Zionsville Community High School to start teaching science.  A lover of all kinds of technology, biological and computer based, Zionsville gave him the opportunity to maximize the classroom experience by creating a biotechnology class and letting him pilot the schools Angel Learning Management system. 

From there he created the schools first hybrid class where the student only came to class for lab work twice a week and did the rest of the course through on-line modules.  This class won an IPL Golden Apple Award for its use of technology in 2010.  Dan was the youngest teacher to ever win the award.   

Technology has always been at the forefront of Dan’s classroom and he is always scouring the web for new pieces of technology for his students to try out. His favorite include scoop.it, jing, stumbleupon, glogster, voicethread, twitter, and prezi. 

 

 

 



Brian E. Bennett is a science teacher currently living in Indiana after teaching overseas in Seoul, South Korea for two years. He leverages a Flipped Classroom with biology and chemistry students to help them become independent learners, build global connections, and become producers of information rather than consumers. 

Brian has spoken at conferences and has led workshops on the Flipped Classroom in various places including Korea, Malaysia, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and California. Brian was also selected to be a keynote speaker at the 5th annual Flipped Class Conference held in Chicago in June, 2012.
