Thanks to all of our members for making ICE 2013 a very successful conference! Everyone who registered and attended are automatically members of ICE, so don't forget that you will receive a bimonthly newsletter with up-to-date news about ICE and our activities, notes and opportunities from the world of educational technology, technology tips, and classroom humor. Dear fellow ICE members,
I am Michael Hutchison and I have the honor of being the ICE President. I teach social studies at Lincoln High School in Vincennes. I was the 2002 ICE Teacher of the Year, as well as the 2002 ISTE Teacher of the Year. I'm starting my fourth year on the ICE Board of Directors.
For most of us, each new school year means getting ready for the changes it brings. ICE has undergone changes as well. Our membership and newsletter listserv has a new address and delivery system, our contact email address has changed and the ICE office has a new address. Be sure to read the information in this web site for more about the changes.
I know you have many responsibilities at home and school. However, I hope you consider becoming even more active within ICE as well. I hope you'll attend and present concurrent sessions at the annual conference, and volunteer to help us during that time. Also, there are other ways to become involved in the organization. The ICE membership listserv is a great way to collaborate and share ideas, projects, and information. Consider sharing the newsletter with teachers who aren't members of ICE and encourage them to join us by becoming ICE members. After all, membership is free!
And, as vacancies occur, consider applying for seats on the ICE Board of Directors or on the ICE Conference Committee. As members, we already support the use of technology as a teaching tool, so let's work together to get more Indiana teachers working toward that goal.

The Indiana Computer Educators (ICE) is a non-profit, volunteer group of professionals whose mission is assisting educators to enhance learning through the use of technology. David Flowers of the Fort Wayne Community School Corporation founded this organization in 1980. In 1980, ICE was a user group of forty-three people that were interested in computers, met two or three times each year, and published a newsletter. Today, ICE has more than 2,500 members who are K-12 educators, administrators, or higher education professionals. The ICE conference is Indiana's premier educational technology conference for K-12 teachers, administrators, and school technology leaders and is the one of the largest conferences of its kind in the nation. We also work toward advocating for technology in the classroom, and are always happy to lend Indiana educators a helping hand in their efforts. The ICE newsletter contains interesting articles, Web resources, Conference information, tech tips, and Indiana Department of Education updates. It is e-mailed about twice per month to about 2000 people, mostly teachers, who support ICE's goals. There are fifteen ICE Board members who meet six times each year. This Board is made up of technology coordinators, educators, a higher education member and two ex-offico members. Those ex-offico members include a representative from the Indiana Department of Education and the ICE administrative assistant who coordinates all communication between the Board, Conference Committee, and membership. ISTE sponsors an annual conference and exposition (formerly known as the National Education Computing Conference) to be held in Atlanta, GA. The conference provides a forum for exchanging ideas about using computers at all grade levels and in all types of education.
ISTE supports its members by offering books, courseware, professional development services, government and legislative representation, a monthly newsletter, periodicals (including Leading and Learning With Technology), Organization Affiliates, Special Interest Groups, and other benefits.

Membership in ICE is free! For no cost to you or your organization, you will receive a newsletter or two per month with up-to-date news about ICE and our activities, notes and opportunities from the world of educational technology, a tech tip or two, and classroom humor. Although not free, we sponsor a yearly conference with a variety of concurrent sessions, workshops, and nationally-known speakers where you can gain information, classroom techniques and tips, and interact with your Indiana peers.
